Sureify Configuration Panel

Building a low-code tool to help Life Insurance Carriers build smarter, more intelligent applications.

Sureify is a B2B2C White-labelled Life Insurance technology company that allows leading carriers to offer digital solutions for their users. When I joined the team, each application was manually hard-coded, which resulted in countless engineering and QA hours wasted for each application we spun up as we signed new carriers.
With the rise (and success) of online applications, our carriers saw a need to build unique variations of applications — whether that be by geography (both country level and individual state level), language, age, and many other variables.

My Role

Was the lead Product Designer on this project, worked closely with another Product Designer who led the visual design side.

Worked closely with a US based engineer, as well as an Indian based engineering lead who was managing the implementation teams, as well as our Head of Product.

Structured UX, scoped the work, and ensured we met the MVP baseline.

Impact

Reduced engineering time to spin up new clients, allowing us to scale and grow our customer base without having the staffing overhead we'd had previously.

Research and Discovery

Industry research revealed the pitfalls of feature bloat in similar products, which led to a focused examination of indirect competitors in the survey and quiz space.

Scalability and Scope Definition

Proactive measures were implemented to define the project scope and establish guardrails against scope creep. This ensured alignment with evolving product needs and potential post-pandemic changes in insurance application processing, while maintaining coherence within pre-existing architectural frameworks.

Final Designs & Handoff

Final designs were crafted to address the complex features and technical constraints of Sureify's online application front-end. This facilitated a smooth handoff to engineering teams for implementation, and resulted in a more unified experience for Insurance company administrators.

Reflections and Learnings

Recognized the importance of taking early responsibility in project scoping to avoid rebuilding and rework later in the development process.

Acknowledged the need for comprehensive documentation and clearer communication with the engineering team to prevent confusion, particularly in projects with asynchronous collaboration.

Learned to provide greater support and involvement for offshore team members, especially when facing significant time differences, to ensure effective decision-making and collaboration.
